I just recently had an oil change, like a little over a month ago. Two weeks ago I went to start my car and heard all of this loud "knocking" noise. I checked my oil and there as hardly any in there. I have not had an oil leak . I can tell this because I park in the same parking spot at home and work, neither spots have oil stains in them. I do not believe it is burning up in my engine because I have had a car that did this and I know that you almost always can smell it when it is burning. I believe that they did not refill my oil level when doing the oil change at their station. I called them and they were extremely rude to me and suggested I just "through a quart in there" and drive it a half hour away so they can check it. Luckily, I got advice from a friend not to take it anywhere without putting the required amount of oil in it first. But now the engine does not run like it used to. Is there anything I can do about this? Shouldn't the garage I took it to be responsible?

yes there is some responsibility there,,i own a repair shop,in Tennessee, and if i had been that rude with you id probably have a law suit filed on me,they are responsible for it, but there going to probably say that it uses oil ,and its not there problem, so you need proof that it did not use any oil,and you need to go back and talk to them about it,this gives good mechanics a bad name if i had tried that id be put of business by now,but i have a good steady business of 36 yrs,and enjoy doing it,if your having engine problems from It i know for a fact that you can make them replace the engine ,because i have seen it happen right here in Tennessee, before, and it caused one shop to have to close their doors forever,so you have a good strong case there, stay with it,until it gets repaired,,good luck,i hope this help,s.

Well being a mechanic I can say for a fact that if your car had been missing the oil it would have seazed up by now. In fact it would have knocked and or locked up after just a shore time. How much of a short time I would say 3-5 minets will lock up an engine if there is no oil.
The fact that you say you had it changed ove a month ago would tell me that eather you do have a leak or that your engine has been burning a little oil everytime you start it and you are just now finding out you have no oil.

To let an engine go that long with out oil is not possable.
My advice is unless you can prove thy did not put oil in it you don't have a case. If you only check under your hood when ever the check engine light comes on or the oil light comes on then it is your fault. Most people check the oil and other things under the hood when ever thy gas up. To let a car go that onlg with out checking it is not the oil change places fault, but yours for not checking it more often.

Now dont get me wrong, I am not saying thy did not put oil in.I am saying being a mechanic over 30 years an engine will not run that long with out making some noise or locking up for lack of oil.

If they didn't put any oil in it when they serviced it, it would not have run two weeks. If you are burning oil, you don't necessarily smell it. It just goes out of the exhaust pipe. You should always check your oil before you leave the lot of where ever you got it serviced. What I would suggest is add some Lucas Oil stabilizer it the engine, it's about 9.00 a quart, then top off the oil and see how it does. unfortunately there is no way to pin it on the shop legally. You could talk to them and ask them to help you out, but if I were you I wouldn't take any vehicle back to them.

have you had a different shop look at the car since then to be sure there are no leaks. did your oil pressure light come on? or was the oil pressure gauge really low? its possible they didn't completely fill it, but your talking at least 2 weeks of driving prior to noticing the noise. if it were that low the whole time it would've been making noise right away. and the light should have come on. i would have someone else look at it. any damage that has happened from low oil pressure is serious and not cheap to fix.

the garage is responsible and sue their asses cause if you have no reason to lie about it your engine is toasted. yes drive it so they can say your engine is seized cause you have no oil in it. find a good lawyer and see what you can do, also call better business bureau and ask for help they messed your engine up and didn't put oil in it. next time make the place show your the oil dipstick after the oil change insist on it and be a pain on the side of caution

I heard a horror story from the service manager at a dealership about an oil change on a fairly new vehicle. Only a quart was added and the owner was given back the vehicle. On his way home his oil light came on so they caught thier mistake. The point is they do make mistakes.........

no ! climate it,s previous oil or new oil it nevertheless will leak. it must be the oil pan bolts are loose, the drain plug isn't tight sufficient or the oil filter out isn't tight sufficient. it would be there are 2 gaskets on the oil filter out particularly of basically a million.
