If you are looking for a scientific explanation, life started about 4 to 3.5 billion years ago. Life started in the oceans, and took eons to eventually come onto land. When you are talking in terms of geological time like this, you don't need to worry about BC or AD.

Um, technically, it's not AD or BC. ACE and BCE, as it is really After Common Era, Before Common Era. AD (After Death) and BC (Before Christ) are terms dubbed by Christians. BCE obviously, and the year 0000 is not in BCE (as someone above has stated). It would lie in between the others. Look up the Big Bang, you should get a general year, give or take a few million years.

I agree with Kent_ Shakespeare. And yes AD is Anno Domini, the year of our Lord (birth).......... but I also heard that we counted wrongly (3 to 7 years).

When did life start? Human life? Any form of life? Uhmmmm, something like a zillion years BC (BC=before Christ)

folks: AD did not mean "after death," but "Anno Domini" - "the year of our lord."

since AD came right after BC (there was no year zero), "after dead" mean that the guy the calendar was modelled around only existed for less than a year.

(factoring in calendar errors, he was actually born 7 BC, but that's anotther story)

Life started at the time of the big bang, or, even before that event. It was therefore a very long time 'Before Christ' = BC .

Life started in the very first year. Numero Uno!

And I think it was in Vancouver, BC.

AD stands for "Anno Domini" or "The Year of Our Lord"
BC stands for British Columbia, eh?

Before AD and BC, it was AC/DC

Did this help?

Well done ,I have seen some dumb questions i.e Which eye do you prefer blinking with? and Does the Sun cool down in winter ?But you have managed to make even those questions look sensible with what must rank as the daftest question ever asked in history

Bc is before christ, and Ad, is latin! "anno Domini", meaning after christ, after christs birth, not death!
The year, 0001 was when jesus was born. (if it happened!)
Bc starts here, too, but goes backwards, infinatly.
The year before christs birth( about 2006 years ago) was 1 Bc.
the year before that, was 2 bc.
100 bc, is one hundred years, before christs birth, (thats 100 years before 1ad), THATS 2006, plus 100 years ago, total.

The year dot.

AD - Anno Domini
BC - Before Christ
