Maybe try a mixture of vinegar and water. Spray it on and wipe with a damp cloth.

I have used extra fine (0000) steel wool on mine for that purpose. The extra fine will not damage the surface. To help clean out the steam vents you can use a mixture of vinegar and water. Fill it up 1/4 to 1/2 way, then put the iron on hottest setting with maximum steam and hold it face down over the sink until all the water has been steamed out. When you first use the iron again after that, first iron on a piece of scrap cloth as there may be some residual junk that comes out.

I don't know how anyone lives without Faultless (brand) Hot Iron and Cleaner. It can be bought at out local grocery store. It comes in a one ounce tube. You get an old rag, put it on the ironing board....squeeze some of these in a zig zag fashion and put your hot iron on it in circular motions (don't turn your steam on or have water in your iron)...irons ALWAYS COME CLEAN....

This is what I do and it works great! Take a fairly large piece of wax paper and sprinkle salt on it. Heat up your iron and rub it around on the salt as if you were ironing it.this works for me and I have been doing it for years. Good luck!

If the vinegar and water doesn't work, use a little baking soda as a scrubbing agent with the vinegar (might get a little foamy).
