Yes, and that just means they are not worth your time. The ones who stick around are the best and you need to stick with them!

If they are true friends no they do not. However, the currents of life can quickly put a great amount of distance and time between even the best of friends. So it is wise to stay in touch frequently without being annoying, otherwise, you may loose track of a good friend for good. I have lost track of a couple good friends and it does not feel good. But no matter how much a friend means to you sometimes they move on for reasons often not possible to explain.
"Rather than weeping because it is over, smile because it was" -- Helen Keller
;
There is a good book called "Friendshifts" that gives some good information on friend dynamics and the way you can tell if a friendship is over or just in an interim of change among other helpful insights.

Though you have worded this as a question there is not enough specifics to really answer anything but Yes they do or No not all people do that!
But then you know that already.
Would you forget a friend...no not if it meant something to you but if you had to move on you would have to or the pain of all the friends you made and could not keep would make you the sadest person in the world.
I hope you do not experience this too often.
Be a good freind and you will have good friends.

people don't forget...we grow up and grow apart...things change in life...as each one of us ventures to our own paths..we lose touch with what was...but a true friend will always remain in contact regardless of the life around...my best-friend Jason and I have been friends for 17 years - since we've been like 9

I've had that happen before. It's pretty painful.
Sometimes though, things just aren't meant to be

Yeah, I've had false friends. These you can spot a mile away. They come around when they need something, but run like hell when they think you'll ask them for something.
