My baby (10 days old) gets really red around the diaper area (anywhere the diaper touches his skin). I change him every2-3 hours and i'm using aquaphor and destin. I just changed the brand of diapers today to see if that changes anything. Has anyone experienced the same thing?

I have him on breastmilk supplemented with similac so that is a possiablity. I made sure the diaper was not too tight. He is in a 1.

Go with unscented wipes, unscented baby wash and maybe even back off the aquaphor & desetin. Your little guy might just have really sensitive skin.
We used Bourdreaux's Butt Paste (funny name - they sell it at Target, etc.) instead of Desetin. It seemed to work better and sting less. Burt's Bee's also makes a baby cream that's okay for the diaper area. It's more expensive, but you only need a tiny bit.

You may have to invest in some good cloth diapers the ones where you have to pin them at the hip. Some babies are just ultra sensitive to the chemicals and material of disposable diapers. Pampers are actually scented so those are not a good choice if your baby is breaking out everywhere the diaper touches. Try some A & D ointment instead of the Aquaphor, it protects as well as heals the rash. Gerber actually makes a diaper rash Lotion that works really well too. I hope your babys bum gets better!

Change the brand of diaper you are using. Your baby is having a very mild allergic reaction to that brand of diaper.
I have the same problem with my daughter. She can't where Pampers,Huggies or Generic brands but Luvs are Okay. I would try changing the diaper brand if the redness still occurs I would try generic brands.

Are you sure it's the diaper and not the cream you are using? Burts Bees has a really good powder I would suggest trying that in place of the creams for a few days and see if it helps to clear it up. Also letting him be without a diaper for a little while might help.
There is also a chance that it's being caused by something that you are eating that his body doesn't like (if you are breastfeeding of course)

Yes my baby had same problem and it was the disposable diaper type, we changed brands 3 times before we found a suitable one, also because his skin was sensitive he was allergic to some washing powders and soaps, check all this out.

My daughter had the same problem when she was in diapers. I found out that she wasn't only allergic to the diapers, but also to her formula. We switched diapers to Pampers, and when she was still having a slight case of it we decided to change the formula to Carnation Good Start and the whole problem just disappeared.
Good luck to you.

my niece did. We tried everything... corn starch worked the best.
My niece just inherited very sensitive skin from her father. Leaving the diaper on just causes a reaction. The other thing making it really bad: her formula. Something in the formula actually caused her urine to be acidic and eat away at her skin.
If changing diapers, corn starch and destine don't work try switching formula, maybe even going soy if you have to.
If that doesn't work you might just have to switch to fabric diapers.

I dont know what the cream is that you are using...but sudocrem or or store brand zinc and castor oil cream works well to reduce the rash.
Also, make sure you are not using wipes that have anything in them. Until your baby is a month or two old you should just use cotton wool and water as it is gentler. (The best brand wipe for newborns is Huggies Pure unfragranced if you need some packaged wipes for when you go out)
Hope that helps.
