Many life problems can be solved with mathematics.
For example algebra, it's very useful to solve problem with many factors involved. For example, when you choose someone to be your boyfriend. Of course, you will combine all of his factors that make you interest (how much polite, romance, smart, gentle, etc.) and then you decide if the result is appropriate for you. If you make algebra formula for this problems that will be :
To become your boyfriend = how much (polite + romance + smart + gentle + others), or
B = ap + br + cs + dg + O........................... (a,b,c,d = how much)
Many people use algebra from the simple way to most complicated one to solve their problems, even though they don't realize they have used it. Like your father, to make good result of wood works he must calculate well and use algebra too, even though he use the simple one.
If you can understand mathematics well, you will can solve many problems with faster, simple and efficient way. I know mathematics is very difficult subject, that's why you have to discuss more with your teacher to make you more understand. Don't be shy to ask your teacher if you don't understand. Good teacher will be glad and supports students who interest their subject and will ensure that all students understand.
Good luck

Algebra is the most basic math one has to know to get a technical degree. You may not need a technical degree, but the people who designed the computer you are working on knew algebra, and the cell-phone you use, and the car you will drive in the future. The people who figure out the nutritional content of the food you eat know algebra, as well as the doctors who treat you when you are sick, because they had to learn it to understand pharmaceuticals.
You may need it one day when you are trying to buy holiday gifts, say you have $200 to spend and you have 6 people to buy for, how much do you have to spend on each person? With all due respect to your step-dad, algebra would probably come in real handy to him had he learned what it could do for him (as it has for me when I'm building).
Hope that helps a little inspiration - just gotta grind through it - if anything you may appreciate the effort that has gone into every detail of the everyday products you use.

WOW!!!! A carpenter and he doesnt use it? He must be really good at eyeballing pieces of wood. There are many reasons why u should study algebra. For example I had phone bill that was extremely high. I looked over it and used an algebraic expression to figure out if they phone company made a mistake and in fact they had. I sent them the bill with my algebraic calculations and they apologized and I saved $59 bucks!!! If I hadn't studied algebra I could have easily just handed them over my money. Algebra can save you some cash believe it or not, Im also an engineer so I use it daily.

Look... I'm not going to lie to you and say that you have to know algebra to get by in the world. That's ridiculous. Obviously lots of people do just fine without knowing a bit of it.
But suppose you could do just a little bit better by knowing algebra? Problems that you need algebra to solve don't show up every day (well, unless you're a scientist, economist, or mathematician!), but when you're good at algebra, you start to see them when they do.
And if you could do even a little bit better than you might otherwise, why WOULDN'T you want to? Don't you stoop down to pick up money you see on the ground? This takes a little more work than stooping, but you might just make a lot more money from it too!
Stick to it! If nothing else, it will make you feel smart later when you know stuff that other people don't!

Ok, by definition, algebra is the use of letters and numbers to form math problems.
Like 6a(4b). That means six times a times four times b.
You need to know algebra so you can find missing links.
Like, say you were making cookies for 150 people, but the recipe you have can serve 10!
You need to find out how much more stuff you'll need to make that stuff!
IM me (ska_dj45), and we'll go from basics.

It can be used to solve questions when you need to work backwards on a question or you don't know all the information. It can also be used to help when you can use more than 1 term for a variable. (There really is not much use if you're going to be a carpenter.)

It's not the math stuff that's so important, it's learning to think logically and solve problems step by step. If you're going to get anywhere in life, you have to be able to think straight, not guess or use trial and error. That's what algebra helps you to do.

If your phone bill is $30 for 100 minutes of talk time and $40 dollars for 200 minutes of talk time, how much is the rate per minute and what is the monthly service fee?
Try tio solve that without algebra ($0.10/min, $20per month service fee)

It's to help you think logically...or at least that's what they say. Wait until you do calculus...you're really start to miss doing algebra.
