We learn in school that Columbus discovered America in 1492.
(By the way, I agree that the natives (Indians) were there and discovered it first)
But this is what Wikipedia has to say about it:
While history places great significance on his first voyage of 1492, he did not actually reach the mainland until his third voyage in 1498. Likewise, he was not the earliest European explorer to reach the Americas, as there are accounts of European transatlantic contact prior to 1492. However, Columbus' voyage came at a critical time of growing national imperialism and economic competition between developing nation states seeking wealth from the establishment of trade routes and colonies.

well, the natives came first, but then the vikings came. The vikings found Newfoundland in canada. The vikings came like 400 - 500 yrs b4 columbus. Either way, columbus, who discovered Hispanola (now Haiti and dominican republic), came in 1492

Columbus never discoved america he discovered the carribean islands, and the native americans discovered america...but the date in question is 1492.
and the first european person to discover america was lief erikson(a viking)

He didn't discover America on his first voyage, but landed on the island of Hispaniola, but natives were alreayd living there. Basically, he opened a new path for Europeans and discovered it for Europeans
