Where do I get historical stock data from?

I want to find the historical returns of stocks listed in S&P500. Where can I download this from? Free of charge.

It's simple if by returns you mean closing prices.


Just go to Yahoo finance (http://finance.yahoo.com)

Type in your symbol of the index (or stock) you’re looking for

Then on the left, click on historical quotes.

Now, you can then type in the date range you want and choose daily/weekly/etc

You can even download the data to excel or wherever.


Or if you prefer, you can go to this link instead. Just replace GOOG with the index or stock symbol that you’re looking for.

If you want a different one, just type in the symbol or look it up and type it in.

To download, just click on the link at the bottom of the page.

Yahoo finance allows you to view and download historical price data for most stocks for many years. Just click on historical prices on the screen for the ticker. Here is a link to the historical prices for COP. They go back over 20 years.

The yahoo finance page has price charts that go back to the 20's - are you talking price change returns or dividends ? You can just type in the ticker symbol & get charts in 1 day, to 5 yrs & maximum yrs for that business.
