It's technically supposed to be pronounced SKOOL-kill, but we in Philly don't have time to say every letter...most of us just say
SKOO-kul.

I swear--I mean, I SWEAR!--I heard someone from the area pronounce it "sky-kill".
...maybe it was a New Yorker, I don't know. But I'd bet a large sum of money that there are folks with a legitimate claim to the name who pronounce it that way.

"Skoo-kul" with the emphasis on the 'skoo' is how most in Philadelphia prounounce it. Alternatively using "skool-kill" or "skoo-kill", people will understand which river you mean.
