I own a 2000 Dodge neon. Its a basic one, meaning it has no power windows, locks, ect..It is paid off and i plan in selling it in the spring. I live in the midwest and the winters are brutal. i was thinking about adding a car starter with keyless entry. thought it would be a nice feature to have for the winter. Is it even possible to do a keyless entry on a car that has no power locks? and can i install it or should a pro go at it?

Installation depends on how "smart" you are, and how much ambition you have, - a little mechanical knowledge & experience won't hurt either!

If you have a standard transmission like my 96 does, it is a little more work, as you don't want it starting when it is in gear! There are some relays and sensors you will have to install extra-- which will insure that the engine can't crank anywhere but in neutral!

Now the keyless entry might be a little more work, since you will have to get inside the of door and put in a solenoid to pull the latch in so the door will open!

Better yet, why don't you put in an "autostart" unit, and it will start every time the engine gets below a certian temperature on the block, -- this will insure that yhou have instant heat when you get in the car, and defrost will operate right away too! This system is wired into the heater, and it will run the heater and keep the interior of the car warm too!

I had one of these on my car in the 70s in Wisconsin, and parked it on the lawn right next to the bedroom (the only place the snow didn't drift 6 feet deep overnight!) It ran about 8 minutes - every 25 minutes when the temp was -30.

Hi yes the starter remote sounds like a winner. Especially on those cold mornings. You could start that baby up and let her warm up, while you have an extra cup of coffee. The power, they will probably supple ,when you get your key less entry installed.I would say that installing this yourself would be a bit to much .I would have a professional put it in.You do not want some thing going wrong with it in the middle of winter. You know putting this stuff on a basic model, will make you feel like a winner. Go for it. Good Luck ROSCO

Manual vs computerized (that's best the transmission)a distictly one of a kind aspect than the engine Engines include a carb(ancient days) and a starter. Period Otherwise this is a lump of steel. No one of a kind than shopping a airplane("oh, wings rate further") So the starter is going with the automobile. What are you gonna do with it with no automobile? It isn't that beautiful. That is what I obtained from the primary aspect of your rant. But it kind of feels the automobile has a starter in it as I learn farther down.. He can computer virus you for a month of Sundays. Does no longer subject. HE are not able to force specifications. It is all his fault. He does no longer comprehend what the heck he's doing. Older cars and there are lots of of them nonetheless at the avenue may also be began in any apparatus. So lengthy because the snatch pedal is depressed, besides for impartial for at that factor the engine and transmission don't seem to be engaged so melancholy of the snatch pedal isn't quintessential. All authorized speigal. This is average. He is beautiful good screwed on his possess seeing that he has no person in charge besides the individual who taught him the way to force general shift - or he has in charge his dimwittedness.

I have a car w/o power locks or windows also. I was given the remote start for a gift and I love it!. Now I can lock/unlock and start my car with the remote. It is terrific. I live in Ohio and do not have a garage. It is just great in the winter! In the summer too.
