Georgie, what's with the change of heart about the Wings? I thought you hated the Wings?

I do not agree. The Montreal Canadiens from 1956-60 were greater. The Habs from 1976-79 were greater. The NY Islanders from 1980-83 were greater. So were the Edmonton Oilers from 1984-88 were greater.
When you talk about the Philadelphia Flyers if there is anybody I give credit to their success is Bernie Parent. During those years he was the best goalie in hockey and probably among the top 15 of all time. He won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 1974 and 75.
Other than that I said it before and will say it one more time. The Philadelphia Flyers played a dirty game. You are right John Disque. Dave Shultz's penalty minute record is something to bragg about and to be proud of.

By no means should you interpret my answer as an indication that I am a fan of the Montreal Canadiens. However they are the most successful franchise in the NHL and the team they won 5 Stanley Cups in a row with in the 1950's has to be given a lot of consideration for the best team ever in Professional Hockey. Detroit has also had a good franchise over the years of its existence and has had some excellent players (Gordie Howe, Steve Yzerman) but Montreal has to be the best team/franchise in hockey. I wish my team, The Boston Bruins, had such an illustrious history.

Ever heard of Montreal Canadiens? They've won 14 Stanley Cups more than the Detroit Chicken Wings(10).

I'm a die hard Wings fan but I would not say they are the best team EVER. There is the Oiler teams from the 80's, the Canadiens from the 70's. Detroit has never had a dynasty like that.

Well, the 80 Edmonton Oilers are probably the best team ever. Thou I myself think the 70 Philadelphia Flyers were an awesome team probably would have won more cups had the NHL not changed the rules on them. Detroit could hold a candle to those teams.

I think the Canadiens and Leafs might differ with your statement.
Before the late 90s the Wings didn't do squadoosh for years, and years, and years, and years.
