It was of course Harrison Ford.
Ford was a set carpenter when spotted by George Lucas who decided to put him in 'Grafitti'. Lucas then cast him in Star Wars as Han Solo. Lucas was hesitant to cast him again as Indiana Jones, only because he didn't want it to end up that Ford was in everything he was involved with. Originally they were looking at Tom Selleck for the lead. Lucky for us it ended up Ford :)
