As cliche as it sounds I agree with that more and more with each passing day. Get loads of mail from different charities asking for donations. I look at all of them as money going out to total strangers when it could be used to pay bills, and take care of my family.

"Charity begins at home" is both literal and figurative or metaphorical.

Literally, it means putting one's family members first. Caring about and being truthful with others starts with those closest to you.

Metaphorically it means being charitable, caring and forgiving toward your self. Becoming strong and self nurturing (not self absorbed or selfish) within and being true and honest with yourself, being who you truly are. So, beginning with that as your base you are able to be of help and strength to another if they need and/or want you to be.

With both interpretations I wholly agree.

When you are strong and your family is strong, then it is important to help others.

many years in the past I were given off the prepare in downtown Vancouver to visit relations for the holidays, It became freezing chilly that day and that i said a touch old woman tucked right into a doorway with a trash bag wrapped round her for warm temperature, I walked in the course of the line to a espresso save and acquired her a wide espresso and a danish, then further them decrease back to her and gave her the replace from the $10 I used to purchase them, she regarded at me with a seem of disbelief, then smiled with tears in her eyes and needed me a merry Christmas. She wasn't begging yet so deserving, so I even don't have any challenge giving to the homeless. yet there are such diverse charities accessible that want our help its quite a persons' own decision who they donate too, each and every charity from the Salvation military to the SPCA want us. If we are fortunate adequate to be able to furnish then we'd want to continually, each and every little bit facilitates.

Absolutely. It can be something as small as donation old shoes to the Goodwill. Not to be a goody goody, but to teach my 3 year old this concept, we allowed her one gift of her choice from her birthday party, and took the rest to the children's shelter (homeless shelter), explaining that they didn't have anything. If we can start raising our kids to be more charitable and compassionate, maybe there will be hope for the world after all.

Of course it does. A family member is ill and a neighbour is ill. Who do you spend your time with? Kinda says it all.
