I JUST got this yesterday (Presario SR2027X), and after turning off my machine, it pops up with the screen "Windows did not shut down successfully." (Even though I went to START, shut down, etc.) Then, when I go to "start Windows normally", it goes right back to that same page. So, then I go to "start in last known configuration" and my desktop pops up with the icons and start button, only to have them disappear after a few seconds. What is causing this and how do I fix it? PLEASE help!

Your HDD is probably no good. The drive has crashed. The MBR on the drive has a problem. The MBR is where the operating system lives. You'll say "why, it's brand new!" but, that is really the best thing that could happen! It's under warranty, and you will get a new HDD out of it. Infantile demise in computers is a fairly common occurrence. They will usually fail within the first thirty days of ownership. When I build a computer, I run a memory test on it overnight. That's called a "burn in" if somethings gonna fail, it will fail at this point. I would suggest that when you get the computer back from repairs, set up the screen saver and leave it on overnight.

Do a HDD Self Test Under Tools Menu in Bios setup to check for the Hard drive. If the hard drive has gone bad, you may get this error message. I think it is f2 key to go into bios settings when u turn on the computer.

1) Increase RAM (memory).
2) Increase free disk space (remove unneeded programs from hard drive, delete temp files and folders, switch to a larger hard drive, add a second hard drive)
3) Reduce the number of programs running in your system tray/at startup. You can do this by going to Start > Run > type "msconfig" > go to the StartUp tab and deselect everything except critical programs like your anti-virus.
4) Scan for/remove spyware/adware/malware.

Check out Advanced Windows Care, it will help with most of this automatically and it's free: http://www.iobit.com/

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
