So many people, so little real knowledge. Do you think that people should be tested on their knowledge and awareness of world affairs and the issues before being allowed to vote on pure emotion and speculation about things they know little or nothing about?

You make an excellent point first of all. There are indeed many people who vote with minimal knowledge of the issues and of what's at stake. I can attest to being one of those people myself, but the fact of the matter is, I know the basics of whom I will vote for and whom I will not (I live in Michigan), and to propose a test to qualify to vote is essentially stripping people of their right to vote all over again. I blame the Government Officials (I do not use the term 'Politician') because they make it into a popularity contest. I also blame the media because they egg it on, but I digress.

Being stupid isn't a good enough reason to keep someone from voting. Besides, where would you draw the line? Perfect score? One wrong? Two wrong? What if the people giving the quiz at the polls decide someone "can't" vote because they can tell they support the wrong person? Or the wrong political philosophy? This would just be an absolute disaster WAITING to happen.

No but Econ 101 should be part of the secondary school curriculum.

That way we wouldn't have to explain that people whose unemployment benefits have run out are NOT excluded from the official unemployment count, and that the tax cuts did in fact "pay for themselves," and that a minimum wage of $7.25/hour is meaningless when that's what McDonald's already pays entry level workers, while a minimum wage of $10/hour would simply render people who make $7.25/hour unemployable.

Sean, what is "Britain" and why do we care who their Prime Minister is? Why do you consider it politically significant how many raw times the interest rate was adjusted this year by, uhhhhh, Greenspan? LOL

Don't bother: the ditto heads will pass your test with flying colors. They are very good at memorizing things that they have been told to think and say.

Who's the chairman of the federal reserve, and how many times has he adjusted the interest rate this year? Google and wikipedia are off limits.

i like the belief. i think of many might fail on some questions approximately some ballots. it would advance democracy by skill of basically allowing smart recommended voters to vote on the candidate of their determination. as an occasion if i know no longer something a pair of bond election, i does no longer be allowed to vote on it until i ought to respond to the a number of questions. i might gladly be disenfranchised with the intention to allow basically recommended voters in on the vote. i may well be inspired to be recommended on the places of work that I have been relatively fascinated in. it would even advance the opportunity of electing extra smart officers by skill of making a technique for determining on what questions may well be asked unto itself. in spite of the undeniable fact that, specific potential hungry zealots from all over the political spectrum who place self belief in lack of expertise to maintain their grasping grip on potential will by no skill enable this to ensue. a good decrease voter turnout won't be the end result as applicants might ultimately campaign extra incredibly with much less rhetoric understanding that basically recommended voters have been turning as much as vote. hopefully an end to chanting ranting and opposing for the sake of opposing without smart determination might ensue.
