Here are the allegories: THe palace, the prince, the masquerade, the clock and the masked figure. I need someone to tell me the possible meaning of each of these then the possible lesson of the story each of these might stand for. I really do not understand this stuff so if you are smart and can help me in anyway, that would be great. Thanks!

I know what the story is about roughly but these allegories are on a worksheet of mine and I do not know what to put for the meanings of them or the lesson of each of these allegories....again the allegories are: the clock, the prince, the number 7, the stranger, and the abbey. Please help me figure these allegories out, don't give me just a summary of the story cause that's not what I am looking for thanks!

The story takes place at the castellated abbey of the "happy, dauntless, and sagacious" Prince Prospero. Prospero and one thousand other nobles are taking refuge in the abbey to escape the Red Death, a terrible and gruesome plague that has been sweeping the land. The symptoms of the Red Death are gruesome to behold: the victim is swept by convulsive agony and sweats blood instead of water. It is said to kill within half an hour. One night, Prospero holds a masquerade ball to entertain his guests, but late into the night, he notices one figure in a grey robe resembling a funeral shroud, with a mask depicting a victim of the Red Death, which all at the ball have been desperate to escape. Gravely insulted, Prospero demands to know the identity of the mysterious guest. To the horror of all, the guest is revealed to be the personification of Red Death itself. Once this is revealed, all the guests suddenly contract and succumb to the disease. The theme of this story is how, eventually, nature punishes the proud that believe themselves invulnerable, and that no one, no matter how hard they try, can escape death, as it comes unexpectedly, "like a thief in the night."

I just did this in my AP american Lit. class. The prince is prosperity hence his name and how you cant kill death. the clock is time and the never ending ticking away of life, the masquerade is life because life is a party, and the masked figure is death.

Too many questions! Its hurting my brain! Lets just concentrate on the plague and how aweful it was.
