I was diagnosed witht his 4 yrs ago. I maintained about 133 up until 2 months ago. Now up to 143. They say my levels are fine with taking 112 mg of Synthoid, I'm not eating any different, yet I'm putting on the weight. I am so discouraged. At 5'1", I have gone from a size 2 to a size 6 and am very uncomfortable. What can I do to help deal with this?

My guess would be that your levels aren't fine. Your doctor should do a TSH level test. This will gage your thyroid level. Another question would be have you switched from Synthroid to Levothyroxine or from two different generic companies. There are slight, very slight kinetic differences between generics. Because thyroid is such a closely regulated level, some doctors will recommend only taking the brand or at best sticking to only one generic company. If you have switched, have your doctor recheck your levels, that may be the cause, or at least a potential cause.

When was your last thyroid test? You may need to have it tested agian and more thoroughly.
Hypothyroidism slows your metablism down to a snails pace so all food you ingest basically does not get used properly and goes into fat storage.
You need to make sure your dosage of meds is correct, you eat properly and you need to vigorously excersise. This is the only way to combat it.

My Dad has Graves Disease. (Hyper) Both are very serious conditions. Be very careful. I know after you've had it a while they don't check but about once or twice a year. You may have to start going more often until you get it regulated. Be sure to get checked, it could cause heart failure. My Dad was told not to go to the bathroom without his nitro's when he was having problems. Not trying to scare you, just being truthful. Good luck.
