Nonmembers:
Yearly cost = 4 * days + 10 * days = 14 * days
Members:
Yearly cost = 400 + 5 * days
14 * days > 400 + 5 * days
9 * days > 400
days > 400 / 9
days > 45

One way to go about this is
Claim 1
The gym membership and the lowered equipment rental will over all be cheaper than the regular fee given the person goes to the gym often.
So total the charges for non-members.
Which is 4$ per day plus 10$ per day equip fee
total 14 dollars a day
So take $400 which is gym membership (equipment rental doesnt need to be added in my opiniona0
and divide by 14
= 28.57
So you should go to the gym more than 29 times in order to justify the membership.
I don't know if thats the eqn your teacher is asking for but I hope that helps.

Let a member should attend at least x days to justify the membershipthe annual membership. The casual fee for x days is $4x+$10x=$14x.,whereas the annual expenses would be $400+$5x .Therefor according to the problem 400+5x=14x =>5x-14x=-400 or -9x=-400 or,x=400/9=44.4, Therefor, the gym should be used atleast 45 days to justify paying yearly fee.

Why would a person pay $400 for a membership and then pay $19 per visit for the workout and equipment rental. Do you have any other information? Only the owner (collecting the money) could justify membership.

$4/day : work out
$10/day: equipment
members
$400/ 1 year: membership
$5/ day: equipment rental
$400+($5 * 365 days) = $2,225
$2,225/$14 per day = 158.9
If you go more than 158 days, it is better to get the membership!
check: 159 days * ($4 + $10) = $2,226! so already you are starting to pay too much after 159th day!

x= 44.44444...
therefore, it is justified if you use the gym more than 44 times a year
