I have to write a general essay on the uses and applications of the Gas Laws (Boyles's, Charles', Gay-Lussac's, Avogadro's), Fick's Law of Diffusion, Dalton's Law of Partial Pressures and Henry's Law of Solubility to the Biosciences.b (1000 words)

I am not required to re-define or to cite any of the laws in equation/formula or mathematecal format.

Just wondered if anyone could provide me with some good book or website names which would be useful for this.

I need something relatively simple - this is the first time I've come across these laws and the lecture on them is only 3 days before the assignment deadline - I need to make a start and would appreciate any info - THANKYOU!

Geez, that's a beast of an assignment if you haven't even heard of these laws before.

None of these laws are recent, so any good encyclopedia should have lots of information about them. Even Wikipedia, but always take wikipedia with a grain of salt, since it's nonprofessional and many professors don't accept citations from it.

The gas laws should be pretty well covered in an elementary chemistry textbook. I really can't recall if such a book would cover Fickian diffusion, but Dalton's law and Henry's law should be in there as well. If you have a chapter in your course textbook about blood chemistry, that might be a place to look, as Dalton's law deals with the partial pressure of gases, and Henry's law with the solubility of gases in liquids. Fick's law would certainly be covered in any references about the lungs.

Do you mind if I email you some powerpoint presentations from my College Chemistry class. They are real simple to understand and will help you with your work.

If so look for nyyraven25 email account.
