I was watching Braveheart and I was wondering what ever happened to the Scottish Kings? I follow it to James the fourth when he took both crowns but then I lose it. Is the current Queen from the Scottish line? Who are our princes?

James IV had a son, James V. Mary Stuart (Mary, Queen of Scots) was the daughter of James V. Mary was second in line for the English throne after her first cousin, once removed, Elizabeth I of England (their common ancestor was Henry VII of England) Mary was convicted of treason and executed by order of Elizabeth I. Elizabeth I was childless so Mary's son, James (James VI of Scotland) became known as King James I of England after the unification.

The lines cross constantly. The current Queen is a descendant of James VI of Scotland (aka James I of England) but James was descended from Henry VII of England anyway.

From 1707, the titles King of Scots and Queen of Scots are incorrect. Hence, this list runs up to 1707; for monarchs after that date, see List of British monarchs.

Her Majesty's ancestry includes most of the early British royal lines.

The Monarchy is the oldest institution of government in the United Kingdom. Until 1603 the English and Scottish Crowns were separate; after this date one monarch reigned in the United Kingdom.

I think you got confused with the Roman Numerals. It was King James the Sixth of Scotland who became King James the First of England.

With the Hanoverians, etc. there has not been a direct line of descent from William the Conqueror ... and also, in Scotland, the Kingship did not necessarily pass by male primogeniture but, rather, by tanistry.

But, trace Her Majesty's ancestry and you will find she is descendant of many Royal lines.
