How To Stop Being Rude

Stop being rude! There really is no excuse. This generation of kids sat around watching "Rugrats" and other shows where rudeness was thought to be cute. I can guarantee if you didn't have TV and movies showing you how to be rude, and if your parents made you get out and actually do hard work, you'd not think to be rude anymore. You are young, yes, and you're going through changes, yes, but you KNOW what you're doing is wrong, and you KNOW there is no excuse for it. It hurts your parents for you to talk that way to them. I've got a 17 year old daughter right now who has been rude with me for several years. It hurts me so much, but she doesn't seem to care. I try to help her with something or share some advice with her and she very snidely says, "I KNOW!!!!!" I'm not trying to hurt her. I'm trying to help her, but she's learned that it's cool and "grown up" to be mean to her parents. I just wish she'd be nice to me. Please be nice to your parents. They deserve that. I know you are feeling moody, but keep in mind that it's a stage, and work hard to controlling your tongue. You will have to do it some day if you ever, ever hope to hold your marriage together. It won't get better with time. Being kind and considerate is learned behavior. It isn't granted to you. It's up to you to learn to be nice and talk nice, even when you don't feel like it. I had to.

Talk to tehm like how you EXPECT to be talked to- with dignity and respect and with patience. You wouldn't want anyone snapping or yelling at you, so don't do it to them. Change the tone of your voice; you may not know if it is condescending or not. You can do this by watching people's reaction's when you speak to them. Are they startled? Taken back? Suddenly become quiet? Get an angry or confused look? Seem like they are trying to hard to be nice/forced smiles (this means they don't want to be rude back, but don't like your behavior)? Do they lose this smile quickly after you stop talking? If so change your tone and word choice. Simle at people. Put yourself in their shoes.

my daughter has this same problem. the rudeness is not intentional ...sometimes it is the way she ways things and sometimes it is actually what she says... best resolution 1.)take a second to hear in your mind first, what it is you want to say 2.) make sure you are not using a bitchy or condescending tone... 3.) try to speak with a smile on your face...it is really hard to be mean or rude while smiling.

Think before you speak. It will help, not only with friends, but when you start working too.

That's the same problem I have. Just try to be as nice as possible to whoever said that and ignore what she says.

Ask your friends to tell you when you're doing it, so you'll know what behavior it is they think needs to be corrected.
