I'm paying a roofing company $5000 to do my roof. Do you tip the guys on top of that? If so, how much?

No, the contractor has factored into the bid materials, labor and profit. You do not need to pay the workers or the contractor any kind of tip, nor would a reputable contractor expect one.

I do however agree that if you think the workers are doing an excellent job giving them some cold soda is a great gesture.

If you are there and interact with the guys and think they've worked really hard or gone some extra steps for you, then like any worker in that situation you may want to tip them. And if so, I'd think $20. But I'm talking the minimum payment type workers. Not the guy who you give the check to for the $5000. I wouldn't stress over it too much. I doubt the workers usually get tips but I make a point of it when contractors have workers just getting by.

I've worked for many contractors in my life, and not one of them ever expected anything like a tip. All they want is to be paid the contract price on time...when the job is finished.

i do a lot of repair work and have been tipped(from$5-$25) by home owners as well as renters who felt i had gone the extra mile for them.it made me feel good to be appreciated.if you are impressed with their work and feel they are trying their best for you,by all means tip them.i don't think you need to tip the owner of the co.he's making his and will still appreciate you appreciating his people.

A case of beer on a Friday afternoon never hurt anyone.

BUY THEM LUNCH OR SET OUT A COOLER OF SODAS 1-2 DRINKS PER MAN OR ON A HOT DAY OFFER SOME COFFEE. THATS WHAT NICE HOME OWNERS DO FOR US.
