12 is too young regardless of what preference you have, that is sick.

Your stomach may be turned, but not far away is exactly that same law, in Holland.

The reason for the law as it stands in Holland, is actually very sophisticated, and it recognises that many children dabble with sex at an early age, as indeed I did. For some peculiar reason, mothers always seem to believe that children cannot be sexual or sexually active, when they very often are; no matter how badly or childishly they do it. Boys very often indulge in "horse play" at about the age of 11 or 12, and it is usually homosexual in nature: another suprise to mothers who think that children are "innocent".

Because sex and sexuality is very openly taught and discussed in Holland, children are relatively free to experiemnt as they wish, but they are fully armed with all the facts about pregnancy, disease and the emotional concerns. In reality, the Dutch have a very low incidence of HIV, STD's and teenage pregnancy.

An age of consent of 12 may seem incredibly naive, but in fact it is a lot more sophisticated than it appears. Sexual activity among children is legal "if the parents know about it". In other words, it is discussed openly between parents and children, and it is usually up to the children involved to make their own informed choices, rather than being told what to do.

However, the law is even more finely tuned, because the age of consent normally, is 16, which means that anyone over 16, who indulges in sex with a child under that age, commits a serious offence.

So the law protects children from the attention of adults, but permits sexual activity between children of similar age

I can't recall where I saw it, but I believe that China has no age of consent, Japan is 13 years and Albania was 14 until recently. I think 15 is the age in the Czech Republic, Norway and Russia, but I cannot recall what other ages are in other countries.

The fact is, many countries do not share our concerns or our obsession with children indulging in sexual activity at an early age.

All that stated, the real situation is quite different, because even in those countries where the age of consent is 16, 18 or higher, the law is completely ignored, as witnessed by the very high incidence of child preganncy in the UK.

Ask any youth worker, and they will tell you that boys and girls, (sometimes just boys or just girls) are "at it" from about the age of 12 or 13, and the law doesn't seem able to prevent it or even discourage it.

Once you accept that position, then "making children safe" becomes a matter of trust, education and emotional support. If a child came to me at the age of 12 and asked if it was alright for them to have sex with another boy or girl, I think I would want to sit them down and have a long talk to them.

Feeling sick is not a very good way of facing the problem.

Well if I thought that I wouldn't be on this forum at all. I didn't read the question yourefer to so I can't answer specifically. However, bear in mind there are chuckleheads on this site who throw bombs like that simply to get a rise out of people.
So my quick answer is no, I don't wish they would stop asking.
I advise you to take that with a grain of salt. However, anyone wishing to have sex with a 12 year old should be beaten to within an inch of his life every day.

Well now, I believe that in some US states, the legal age for a girl to get married is as young as 13 - however I may be wrong.

I agree with you that 12 years old is too young for the age of consent, but I think that for boys it should be 15 and for girls a little older, say 17. That said, anyone who doesn't want to have sex can always say no thanks.

If someone's asking these things to be purposely disgusting, to get a rise out of people, to be harassing, etc., then I certainly with they would stop asking our advice. I hate those people.

However, if someone asks, truly, wanting to get an answer, to start a respectful, informative debate, then no question is out of bounds. Questions like 'What's wrong with child pornography' may turn our stomachs (and it does mine), but are legitimate forums for us to make well-reasoned cases against it and hopefully help people see and understand.

I myself try to never give to a snap, angry judgement about something I don't like/approve of, but treat it like anything else even as I give my opinion. Personally, I think that question would be a fine time for you to present a reasonable argument rather than rely on a cliched phrase like 'our kids will never be safe'.

Actually No, If you know what you are doing you can legally get the IP addresses of such people by reporting them to the authorities as a possible pedophile. Do you think it is better to allow someone like that to dissapear into a crowd to threaten everyone or make sure they are singled out and brought to justice?

whatever you need to chill out and just worry about your own kids, let go of other ppls problems/hang ups and just sort your own. No one ever said we would all agree on everything, and as far as I can see the age of consent is NOT coming down ANYTIME soon!

Tell me about it. If there's one thing I hate about the internet, it's the ability of sickos, perverts, and bigoted assholes to be able to accuse others of sick **** or vent their hatred and be able to get away with it because of the anonymity of it all.

I suppose its like old enough to bleed old enough to breed.

I personaly think it should go to 18 then perhaps there would be less pressure on people to have sex at a young age

I'm with you. I'd say rate their question with a thumbs down, and then report them. For adult content, or whatever.
