Sweetie, sucking your thumb is inappropriate for someone who is 15 years of age, with emotional issues or without.I am sorry to say that. However, you must find another positive way to deal with your emotional issues besides sucking your thumb.Turn a hard situation into something positive, even if it is hard.If you keep yourself occupied and release your emotions a healthy way,you can break the habit of sucking your thumb. You have an emotional attachment to it.Other words,it is replacing something you are missing emotionally and your thumb is taking its place.OR you are using it to hide behind in harsh situations, when you feel threatened, sad,or worried. If i may make a suggestion.I suggest that you pick up writing and drawing.Even if you think you arent that great of writer,or that great of drawer, you are.Take those emotional problems and express them on paper.Allow yourself to release it,instead of putting it away by sucking on your thumb. It will be a hard habit to break,as you are quite attached, but you can do it.Your mother is right, and you should try to break the habit yourself. As it will be rewarding for you, because you will getting creative and letting your emotions flow onto the paper. That will benefit you greatly.Have a good night hun,and good luck.

Your mom (and most of the world) might not think it's appropriate but it's not "wrong." It's how you deal with stress. I would try to find something else that will help alleviate your anxiety.

well, thumb sucking is bad for the teeth for one thing, and the thumb probably has lots of germs on it. i'd suggest that you find something else to do with your hands, ie, knit or crochet.

You know, parents are dramatizing their own parents advices!!!!
Of course there is no need to doing it, but there is not a ...specific
law or reference on it! Since it is your own finger, suit yourself accordingly....U could reconsider however.......!
Ciao.........John-John.
