Do we not honor our flag any more? When I was younger, everybody stood up, held their hand across their heart and looked at the flag as we said it in unison. I was proud of saying it for my counrtry. I'm not looking for criticism here, I just want to know the reasons it was originally taken out and who was behind it.

Because of the continual decline of our society. The loud voice of the whining few seems to overshadow the quite rumbling of the vast majority. There is little national pride being instilled into our youth today. They do not understand what the flag means and the costs that were paid to provide people with the right to complain about the word God being said during the pledge.

Because of all the people that come here from other country's that don't believe in our ways like how we pledge allegiance to our country and how we use to celebrate Christmas as a Christmas holiday and cant do now because of all the children of diff nationality's in our schools. that is what immigration does to our country and is hand in hand with your question cause it all leads to immigration

What I want to know is why Christians who bithc and moan about the ACLU want to pray to the flag anyway.

And more generally, why can't Americans see the flag for what it is - a piece of cloth, not a sacred relic.

If America is a great nation, the flag represents that. If it is a place of hypocrisy, where we preach freedom of speech, but stifle it at home and abroad, it is nothing.

If we profess our love of "democracy" but overthrow it in favor of compliant dictators in nations where we find the verdict of the people inconvenient, then the flag represents noting - in fact it is a rightful symbol of derision.

It was first during the Vietnam war that the Republican party made a push to appropriate the flag. They did everything they could to make it an exclusive, divisive symbol for their own purposes - if you aren't Republican and Christian and whatever, this flag isn't yours, they said. Now, tell me that strategy didn't work?

Talk to the aclu, secular progressives they are. If they can interpret and twist a law in thier favor, at the expense of America, they will do it.

Because the words, "under God" were added in the '50's, and in today's PC world that is not allowed. Pretty stupid, huh?

I'm not sure if they do in public schools or not, but my children go to private, Christian schools and it is said before school starts and prayer is also before school, and before lunch.
