This is because our circulation and metabolism slows way down when we are at rest, and it takes awhile to get the juices flowing again. And for the heart to get up to speed so as to pump the blood to all your extremeties.
Have you ever watched animals when they wake up? How they stretch and arch their backs and shake their heads? That is what they are doing, getting the blood flow going. I do this in my bead before I get up. Just slift your knees to your chest, do some bicycle kicks. Raise your arms, flex your fingers. It helps alot. We can learn from the animals, since that is what we are anyway, right?

There's a phenomenon called Lucid Dreaming in which you are mentally aware of the fact that you're dreaming and can manipulate your dreams. It could be related to that. Or, it could be that your body is still stuck in REM sleep and your mind just got ahead of itself! Your body goes into "lock down" when you're sleeping so that you don't get up and hurt yourself during the dream stage but some people's system doesn't work as well as others, hench sleep walking.
You're just stuck in some Twilight Zone type of space between waking and dreaming and your body has to catch up!

I'm not sure, but I sometimes get this way when I get super comfortable on my couch. My boyfriend calls it "non-verbal response mode" because if he talks to me, I respond with a "mmm" or "hmm," nothing more. I think that sometimes you just get so comfortable your body sort of goes into a deep relaxation mode.

Thats a really good question! Actually, it's because your nerves and muscles are still relaxed and it takes a few moments for them to catch up with your brain's fast movement.

This happens to my BF all the time..Really don't know why... this happens... but the most logical answer so far is the brain is doing some catching up..

You are not awake, just think you are.
