Why do Black men abandon their families all the time?

I have a lot of Black friends, and the vast majority of them don't have a father, or if they do, they never see him and he's a dead-beat. Why is this the case? Most of my Black girlfriends don't care that their fathers are nowhere to be found? Why is that?

Well, it's unfortunate that you've seen that awful side of black culture, but I assure you that it is not all black men all the time! I personally know a lot of well off male headed families who attend church, play together, do homework together, take trips together, and are involved in their children's educations. Sadly still, there are many young black's who have grown up or are growing up without the support of a Dad. Some people will tell you that it's because the black family was broken apart during slavery when a man's wife/woman and children could be taken from him and there was nothing he could do. Some people might tell you that it's because to this day many black men lack access to education, or higher education resulting in an inability to retain good paying jobs. Some people believe that this pattern is perpetrated throughout one's family tree when generation after generation of children are born out of wedlock. Some black men will tell you that black women have too much attitude and are too hard to get along with. Personally, I believe strongly in personal responsibility. It seems to me that if you didn't have a dad growing up that you would certainly not take fatherhood lightly. Black people can't just fall back on excuses or blame other's for how they choice to live their life. Although your girlfriends say the don't care that their father's are nowhere to be found, imagine what it's like to be a little girl growing up without the one guy who will love you unconditionally.

There is not alot of hope for young black men to be able to support their families. Maybe people should hire young black men instead of hiring illegals and outsourcing. This may help the situation. Drugs are probably the biggest destroyers of the black family. We live in a prison mentality in many urban areas and it is spreading to the suburbs at an alarming rate. This problem is destroying this country. Education doesn't help when basic needs and safety are bigger issues. This is a dangerous country to live in and it is hard to focus on raising families when you are dodging bullets and trying just to make it through one day. No one believes in birth control because of the anti abortion movement . Poor areas don't have enough industry or jobs to support families so they rely on public assisstance. With public assisstance the more kids you have the more money you get. With a husband in the picture they won't get any money. Most do not report the father to get child support because they know the father can't pay support or are in jail. Drugs destroy families. Everyone wants to be a gang banger and get rich quick. I guess rap videos don't help by being a poor example. I do not really have the answer and this is just a stab in the dark.

Again, not all dads are like that, only some. Some are dead before the child is even born or get killed later on. Some are in jail, some really don't want to be there for the child, and some are there for the kid. It is just like the fathers with white kids except more for different reasons. Like more of our fathers are probably in jail and are dead than the white dads....cause lots of them are raised and live in dangerous neighborhoods.

THEY DON'T. I have a father, I know where he is, and he's always done a good job of providing for his family. I have 4 uncles, a bunch of male cousins, and a brother... none of them have abandoned their families.
This happens in all races, not just black. I know white people who do not have a father in their lives also. Same with Latinos and Asians.

As much as I hate to admit it its true. Its a very ugly stat, one I wish I could sit up here and argue, but being real, it is a reality. BUT what I want to know is why you would feel it necessary to bring it up on answers. Its not like we are all going to figure it out and solve the problem. Your question sounds like you think we are alright with this but in reality its a very painful - and personal experience, one I don't think I would want to talk to with someone with the tact of a dog.

ITS NOT JUST BLACK MEN!!!! ITS ALL MEN!!!! My ex-husband left me and my son for his pregnant girlfriend whom is now his wife...so all is well.... a bastard and slut get to be together...anyway my point is it is all men not just black men.

It's not only black men who abandon their families
