'72 Dolphins... 17-0 is the only stat necessary...

This is a hard one to answer, because there are numerous variables.

Many would say the '72 Dolphins or the '85 Bears because of their seasons, but that could simply mean that their competition was horrid that season.

To me, BEST means consistent. I think the Dallas Cowboys in the '90s was the most consistent team in franchise history.

Some could argue that the Buffalo Bills were as well, because they made so many Superbowls (even though they didn't win any of them).

It all boils down to opinion, and what weight you give to certain criteria, but I'll stick with consistency and say the Dallas Cowboys are the best team consistently in NFL history :)

I AM biased though ;)

I would have to go with the 85 bears. Yes I know they were not undeated and the 72 dolpins were however you also have to look at the caliber of teams they played. The 85 Bears were the most dominate team NFL had ever seen. There one and only lost came at the end of the year when half the starters were pulled for safe keeping til the playoffs!

the 72 dolphins 17-0, but looking at the 2006 bears they could easily go 15-1 or 16-0

The 1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers were the only team with a truly perfect record. 5 shutouts, only 3 games decided within a TD, and ended the year with 6 straight games won by 17 points or more!!

1985 Chicago bears, the 72 dolphins only had to play 14 regular season games. but all this is unnecessary because the 2006 Chicago bears will be 19-0. case closed.

Cowboys??? When they came into the league ,every team had to give them top draft choices. After a few yrs ,what team wouldn't have won a super bowl with all that talent.Fact - Chicago Bears have the edge on every team except one or two in overall games played against each other.

OMG...STOP THE PRESSES! Nobody has mentioned the 2006 Chicago Bears (yet)!

Seriously though....have to go with the undefeated Dolphins. Weather or not they were actually the best team in history is debateable....but since they were the only team to ever go undefeated...

If you are talking about one season, it would probably have to be the 1972 Miami Dolphins because they are the only team in recent history to go undefeated. If you are talking about multiple seasons it would probably have to be the Pittsburgh Steelers under Terry Bradshaw. He won the most Superbowls of any quarterback (4 Superbowls) and they are still referred to as the Iron Curtain. You don't get a name like that for nothing.
