iPod Question...?

I have some questions about iPods since I am considering getting one in the near future...

1) Do you HAVE to have the dock in order to charge it?
2) Which iPod model is the best, in your experience?
and 3) Is it really worth all the money to get an iPod or should I just settle for something less expensive and sophisticated?

1) You have to have the corde to plug it into the computer to charge it (unless you seperately buy the wall charger).
2) Video. Why pay $200 for a 4g nano when you can pay $250 for a 30g Video?
3) Try to get a Creative version. They use the file format WMV. Or you can spend a tiny bit more and get one that uses both .mpg4 and WMV files.
