The answer to your question sadly is that we do not seem to be improving.
Yet everyone and his brother are going on to further education, which is a clever ploy by the government. It takes all these people off benefits and they or should I say their parents pay for it
When I was a young lad leaving school you had to be a genius and a degree was something inside a triangle. You can get a degree in animal nutrition now, Three years to learn how to feed the dog! I despair Best wishes a fellow cynic

Good question. There is a song about a socially inadequate couple who have children only to discover that they " in turn are, turning on to, going nowhere".The fact that this observation was made by an American singer 30 years ago, tells me that you may well be correct. Schoolchildren of today struggle with the`O` level standards of yesteryear, but a get a sackful of qualifications at today's standard. I think it was always so, but toady's parents, produce tomorrows children's,children, in a world where what is parked on the drive, is more important than what is parked in the brain!

Defintly...Har! Most definitely. Well, actually, I think "ignorant" is a better word. As public school funding is gutted by rich Republicans, they are deliberately creating a huge surplus of unskilled labor so they can pay them less and send the rest off either to war for oil, or lock them up into prisons for drug offences THEY helped create with their horrible policies on health and health education. It's a "Vast, Right-Wing Conspiracy", just as Hillary said, but would anyone listen? NOOO! Now look at this country! The gov't is in shambles and we've got liars, pederasts, thieves and scum, FAR worse than Nixon, dragging down this once-great country!
And WHY do most Americans let it happen? Ignorance! You hit the nail right on the head.

I think with each new generation there is a higher percentage of stupid people who get more stupid, but the few that are not stupid are becoming more advanced than the last generation of clever people.

No, each generation gets smarter as they get older. They then look at the younger generations (not remembering they too were stupid at that age) and think it is stupid.
There are smart and stupid people in every generation. Most people believe (sometimes erroneously) that they belong to the "smart" part of their generation. When they run into "dummies" from other generations, they just think that the future generations are getting dumber.
Those are two of my theories on your question.
Thanks for the 2 points.

It might seem that way.
On the other hand, previous generations had some bloody big wars, nuked people, bought people, denied women the vote,
nailed people to a tree for saying wouldnt it be nice to just get along...

Yes... And its planned that way. The dummer you are the less income you have. The less income you have the less resources you consume. We are over consuming this planet and the USA is the biggest problem.

that assumes that older people are more intelligent which isn't always the case.
We always seem to forget the good kids out there that work hard and want to achieve things in life only to face in creased peer pressure and no reward.
