government will not dare is another oxymoron. Just start running short of volunteers and see what happens. Haven't they already called up the over 30 reservists and sent some troops back out before they were due?

I think the question should be, who is frightened of the government bringing back national service? I would say all those people in the 16-20 year bracket. This would sort out the men from the boys, sort out street violence, enable this generation to grow up knowing that they have at least done something with their lives and not mugged old grannies for their pension. It will also teach them the values of life itself. The cynics could say that learn to fight, learn a trade, go abroad, take over other peoples countries, set one lot of people against another, lose the equivalent of 15 artic truck loads of explosives from under your own noses (U.S. in Iraq), get blown up with homemade bombs from these explosives, then point the finger at someone else, visit exotic countries, catch exotic diseases and generally mess up what has already been messed up.

Dont know about national service, butwhat i would do is put out a tester, instead of putting a chap in prison i would send them for basic training, from that those who liked it could join those who did not could go home, also for the military could advertise for the young to try it as a course at the end of the day you have a basic trained country incase we ever was desperat enough to need all hands, if yer know what i mean.

Should a country use conscripts to defend freedom. Something is basically non-sensical about that idea.

What shortage. Last time I checked we have so many troops we have somewhere in the neighborhood of 150,000 stationed in Germany, Japan and South Korea. Where they basically aren't doing anything.

why should people be forced into the army? If nut jobs want to sign up that is their choice but it must be a concious choice and not an obligation.

as for the troop shortage, maybe it is because the army is in control of pure evil and people want nothing to do with illegal wars

Personally I think it's a good idea to bring back National Service,,then we might not have so many drunks in the towns at night and less unemployed people,,plus it would solve the long term job seeker issues. And all the anti british people who live here might all bugger off in case they were called apon to serve this country

No but Charlie Rangle sure will and Kerry hates the idea of an all volunteer military. The Dem's will try they already tried to pass it ,sponsored by Charlie Rangle. You Dem's are in for a big treat if you get your wish on Tues.,they need the draft like they did in the 60's, they need to replay Vietnam all over and those pesky men and women of character who keep enlisting and re-enlisting are really messing things up for the Dem's.

Question or statement? If recruitment continues at its lowest level, they will have no choice to defend our country. The sooner the better, just think security for two years, all clothing and three square meals a day, where would you get such a bargain and get paid for it?

It's a Done Deal. Executive Order. Rumsfeld & Cheney approved this with Bush's blessing. All men 18-49 will be draft eligible, to be ready for the war in IRAN which we will invade April 1st.

I agree national service should be re-introduced, it's just a shame that the government are too scared to do it.
