There are lots of thingds you can do, but you probably won't see too much gain. It's an Escort, not a Mustang. Keep that in mind.
You could change your mufflers to a free flowing type.
You could swap out the camshaft to get more agressive timing. You could change the air filter to a performance type.
You could try a cold air, or short air intake.
You could try performance headers.
You could put on better tires.
You could change out the fluids to synthetics.
And, finally you could put a performance tuner on it.

I would put a cold air intake on it, it will increase your house power and fuel economy(cost $75.00-$100.00). Also check and see if they make a computer chip for it, they are relatively cheep depending on the type of chip.

not much. its a ford. parts are not widely available..and when they are there $$$$$$$$
sell it for a honda.
