I just realized this famous story (well, famous where I come from) happened in my own state, which is Kentucky. Has everybody else heard of this story or is it just folks around here? If you haven't heard the story, its about two feuding families supposedly feuding over a pig....lol, its just a story people tell the young ones. Not true, I don't think anyways...

I have heard of it. I live in Pennsylvania.

I always thought that the Hatfields and McCoys were the real names of the Capulet and the Montague families...LOL

Yes the story of the feuding Hatfields and McCoys is a true one, although I'm not sure if it was actually over a pig. While doing a geneaology search one day, I put one of my roommates names in, and come to find out, the sir name Fullerton is a direct descendant of the McCoys. Pretty cool, huh?

Sorry to break the news but they were and still are real families with a real feud over a real pig.

I'm from West Virginia. It is well known throughout the hills of Appalachia. You do have to be away from 6 lane freeways and 60 story buildings. Cross a creek and walk up the hollar to the still. Talk to that guy, he will know the story.

Yes, I've always heard that people fought like the "Hatfields and McCoys".
Not long ago I saw a documentary about the feud. It was very interesting. It was on public tv so they will probably show it again.

i attempted to get a subscription to the long island cases a pair of year in the past and that they by no potential sent the paper. i ended up canceling. i'd join a on an popular basis newspaper in spite of the incontrovertible fact that that's in basic terms too a great number of a topic once I can get the information on line for unfastened. My mothers and fathers nonetheless join the paper. i think of they are the only ones left who nonetheless examine the paper popular. i would be unable to understand the way the newspapers enable the internet get in basic terms before them and by no potential capitalized on the gadget. i'm getting my information from Yahoo specifically and the television secondarily.

Yes. I'm pretty sure most people know who they are. I've known the story since I was a little kid and I grew up in New England. It's been a popular and sometimes over used metaphor for years.

I live in Southern Caliafornia and it is a very famous multi generational fued. The psychodynamics are very interesting. No one in leadership had the ability to defuse any of this or let it go to save lives. It is very tragic story. I think we could all learn a good lesson from this in politics and in our everyday lives.

Totally true! The birth mother of one of my friends is married to one of them, a Hatfield and they live nextdoor to one of the McCoys. I thought she was full of sh!t when she told me this but her adopted mom confirmed it. From what I understand they get along for the most part.
