St George's day should DEFINATELY be a bank holiday! In america they have presidents day and I believe that we should have a day to celebrate being English. I am proud to be English and all that stands for. We are losing sight of our identity in this country thanks to strange thinking by the politicians. At some point we were made to feel ashamed of our Englishness and I think that is abysmal! Unfortunately ,idiots like the national front managed to hijack the english identity and tried to turn it into something grotesque but with the last few world cups we have taken back theSt George's Cross so the next logical step is to celebrate our Saint's day with a national holiday. Very good question!

True true it should be a bank holiday, everyone else seems to have a big bash and show over their patron saint so why are we so proud to be English in most things but ignore St George, bring it on I say and the sooner the better.

We are having the same debate up here in Scotland about a National Holiday for St Andrew.

Yes I agree that St George should be a holiday.

I would quite happily change one of my days for the 30th November and I,m sure the English would change one of they holidays for St George.

Tell me though was St George really a saint?

St Andrew, St David and St Patrick are.

Well, we in Wales have celebrated St. Davids day for ever.
Welsh costumes, cawl cenning, eisteddfod, half day school etc
I can remember living in Newbury in 1987 and going to work wearing my daff on March 1st. My staff asked me why I was wearing this daff, so I said "The same reason you wear a rose on the 23rd of April" not one my 20 staff knew what the f1uck I was on about!
Patriotic............not all of you mate!

Granted, some of them was not the sharpest knife in the draw.......but here in Wales even the bluntest knife knows our Dewi Sant!
But do agree, every nation should have a bank hols for their saints day

Yes! St George is also the patron saint of Catalonia ('Where?' - Oh look it up!) and the day is celebrated here as one of 'national' pride. You are missing out England.
