Yamaha is a good brand too. You should go into a guitar store and check out all the new types there are these days. They come in lots of varieties and some even come with built in pickups and equalizers. You can get a pretty good guitar that's not made by a well known brand if you want to save some money.

The only way to know is to go down and try some out personally. Find one that's comfortable to play both sitting down and standing up.

Have fun and good luck.

The best brand of acoustic guitar is subjective. Every guitarist has different expectations of the brand they would like to own.

For many years I played only Gibson acoustics, but the day I heard and then played a Martin, my whole perspective changed because I prefer deep, resonant and mellow sounds from my guitar rather than more of the brilliant side as Gibson projects.

A model D-1 Martin can be found costing less than $900 in many places. Good Gibsons will tax your checkbook too. But more important, there are other great brands available to the desires of the guitarist such as Taylor, Ephiphone, Takamine, Alvarez, Ibanez, Yamaha, Guild, and Washburn.

My selection for a best brand of guitar, other than a Martin, would be a Taylor because of the great fitting neck and strong projection.

Again, the selection process varies too much to put it all down here. Visit a reputable music store and 'test-drive' every acoustic guitar that meets your fancy.

Take your time and be patient; the guitar for you is waiting out there.

For a beginner the best acoustic brands are Washburn, First Act, and Fender. But if you want something for shows I would go with Gibson, specifically the Gibson Hummingbird series, Epiphone, Taylor, and Ibanez.

As with anything it depends on how much $$ you want to spend. Gibson and Martin are the best.
