Almost 17 years ago, a Southern Illinois mother confessed to killing her infant daughters in separate murders, three years apart. Tuesday, an attorney for Paula Sims, 47, officially asked the state of Illinois to grant Sims clemency and release her from prison.

Paula Sims was convicted of (and admitted to) killing two of her three babies. She hopes to get out of jail as a clemency hearing is under way. She murdered two of her infant daughters in the 1980s. Her attorney says Sims suffered from postpartum psychosis and is no longer a danger to socieity. Her surviving son, Randy, is now a teenager, has written to the Illinois Prisoner Review Board, requesting that his mother stay locked up. He told the board he fears for his life.
