It is really hard most people would like us all to see each other for what we are and except each others beliefs and differences. History shows this does not work which is so sad especially when we watch our children grow and want then to appreciate a good cultural mix whilst growing up and not be singled out for accepting theses differences.I think you have to go with your convictions and put a lot of hope in the world.i am a trainee teacher and know when I walk in to a class room I have a mixed group of children from a multitude of backgrounds but also a wide cultural background and they get it .Maybe we should look at the children and celebrate them and the belief that they can help change the world if the world just takes a moment to look.

Good question! I suggest hating a person may be wrong but hating behavior or ideals isn't. Just don't waste a lot of time there. We should have opinions. No wise person ever said otherwise. As a mother this is important to know. This is what a value is. Values are personal opinions, principles are firm. They are true or false; like math. They can't change with trends. Get familiar with true principles, teach them to your children, make choices based on them and the results will always be the right ones. You aren't responsible for anything else. You control nothing else. Care about others, but don't base your choices on what other think or how they react. I'm a grandmother.

Answer:
No, it's not wrong at all to express disgust of the people who spread racial hatred. I do all the time, and in case you haven't noticed (and I know you have) Yahoo Answers is full of those kind of people that use this Q/A platform as a jumping point to spread their racial garbage.
I receive nasty emails every day from some idiot off of Yahoo Answers who attack me for defending people of color and Gays and lesbians. They call you a Silly White Girl and they call me an ignorant Uncle Tom.
You are not wrong at all and I salute you. Good Job!
You are without a doubt my kind of person. I love you.
Reading your question gave me a sense of hope that not everyone on this planet is messed up beyond repair. You are definitely one of the good guys.
Thank you for being here and keep up the good fight, and good hunting!

Take it light. But remember, what comes under the heading of ' racism ' is simple garden variety evil. People get targetted for just such evil in an organized, contrived manner with the participation of many knowingly acting in concert in full knowledge of what they do. Too, not all racists, are white. In these times especially it helps considerably to excercise if not a healthy degree of skepticism but outright looking through a situation. Simple rule. If you can afford a political platform from which to be heard you are already suspect. The truly poor, the truly oppressed, have no voice in their favor. Their own are usually the first perpetrators of evil. Hope this helps.

First of all you are not a silly white girl. I applaud you for standing up to racism. I am black and if there is anything that I have learned over the years is how to pick and choose my battles. I dont defend the racist remarks but I do feel that they have the right to express themselves as allowed by the constitution. The next thing to remember is that those racists are seeking attention and a forum to spew their hatred. I think that if we just ignored them we would hurt them more because they did not get our attention.

Hatred is bad either way you look at it. Whether it's being racial or not it's still a bad thing to express. Unfortunately we can't stop people from thinking racial thoughts or saying them because they will just attack you. Standing up for someone is not wrong because you are standing up for what you believe in. If someone says you shouldn't then I guess they are too afraid to stick up for themselves. Doing what you can to prevent it is something everybody needs to do so I'm glad you tried to knock some sense into one racist.

depends on the circumstances. you must remember that racist (or any extremest for that matter) are not rational people. they bomb abortion clinics/shoot presidents-and other people- etc. you can express disdain for them online, but in person can be dangerous. if you disagree with a radical you must expect nasty replies. having said that it's really hard to argue with someone who has lost a job to an illegal or not gotten a job to someone less qualified because of racial quotas. sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between someone who is just fed up with our government being "politiically correct" and a racist.

It's not wrong to express distain at all, but remember that it's a two way street.
I do not condone racial hatred, but many feel that they are justified in their reasons for expressing distain at members of other races. They have that right, just as you have the right to express distain towards what you view as racism.
I feel your distain is justified.

you know Wattie, i am glad that there are people like you in the world, who are prepared to stand up for decent human beings everywhere and condemn the often moronic and disgusting bigotry that is constantly spouted on here. its not wrong for you to defend black people, and ethnic minorities for that matter. you have exemplified courage and the sheer willingness to speak out on an issue that has become more widespread and ongoing on this site and i respect you for that. as for the e-mails, i know it is terrible but do remember that at the end of the day, these idiots are a waste of everybody's time. not to mention yours as well. if they wish to further demean and disgrace themselves by posting offensive and derogatory remarks about a particular race, then they are more pathetic than they look.
as for you being called a silly white girl for sticking up for the black community, these people are just so very ignorant and their level of stupidity just baffles me. i'd say you screw them. these people are just not worth the attention.
i hope that in a few years time, when your two kids look up to you and as you pass onto them good morals they can say to you honestly that its all thanks to my mother that i try to be as best as human being as i can possibly be and to do what's good not just for you but for themselves too. keep up the good work Wattie and may i wish you further happiness.

in our society being a "rascist" to many people is open for interpretation. because all though we may consider it rascist they may not. but it is our responsibilty to fight back. of coarse answering them back should be in a decent and orderly manner. we don't need to stoop to their level. I myself encounter rascism every day and I try to handle it in a decent way. Sometimes I want to scream at the top of my lungs but I know in the end by me doing that just justifies their cause further. I think alot of the rascists we see on here probably would never say what they say here in public. you are doing the right thing by voicing your opinion, just as they have a right to voice theirs. They tend to be a little hipocritical because they think they can come on here and say what ever and however they want to say something and then claim free speech at the same time, but when we stand up for moral fortitude they call us or me at least traiter(s). some people say ignore them, but ignoring them is part of the problem- I think. we never know who we might help. one thing we might say may change them. The bible says,"love your enemies". and frankly they can't stand that. teach your children unity among all people is very important and no one is above anyone else because of where they are from, how they got here, or what color they are. that's all you can do. much love to you.
