Yes, the power of string is very underrated. I actually have a string tied to the back of my laptop and stuck to the wall with a thumb tack and that's how I connect to the internet. I tried a shoelace thinking it might give me fast access and it did but I lost it. That reminds me I have to get another shoelace, thanks!

I thought every kid in the world had tried that at one time or another. Yeah, it does work, but the string has to be stretched VERY tightly between the two cans. If it goes slack, you lose the transmission, which isn't all that great to begin with, but it does work in a limited fashion.

Yes, they do - though it's not really that good. The string must be very taught. You can make a much better set by using steel cans connected by a single strand of thin wire - not multi-strand wire.
