1) From my experience it seems that more gay men prefer to bottom. I would estimate the percentages to be 50% top, 30% bottom, and 20% truly versatile in their preference.
2) I have always associated with being a top, it just seemed natural and is what I have always been.
3) It can be flexible, but only for those truly versatile.
4) If two men associate being a top, it wouldn't be too long until one or both was seeing someone on the side or they involved a third person into their relationship.

I'm truly versatile and enjoy being top or bottom equally - I have no preference and just go with the flow, often being top and bottom during the same session. However, for many years I was top by default, most men I met were eager bottoms (I'll leave it to your imagination why), so I assumed the role without complaint and with some enthusiasm. I do not gather statistics or wonder about the "role" dynamics when engaged in passionate tumbles but I hope my experience adds something in your quest for knowledge.

I find it difficult to be with someone who is not versatile. The only way I can have a continuing relationship is if the other person is reciprocal. When you get someone who does not like to kiss and you do, then the relationship does not last long. I have a friend with a prostate problem, he has to settle for being a bottom, although he gets a little help from Viagra.

Even though I think of myself as a bottom, I have been known to switch... Your heart's gotta be into it... I think we are naturally geared toward one or the other... Two men that are tops might get bored with each other... I've been with a guy that isn't "top enough"... He like to be a top, but he's very passive. Things just didn't really go in any direction... In general, I think there has to be some chemistry. Even if you are both tops, guys are nasty and creative... There will always be something to do! If not, then find someone else.
