In the movie Alexander, there are many scenes of Alexander with his 'special friends' Hephaestion and Bagoas, who were rumored to be a little more than just battle buddies (i.e. they slept together).
Alexander lived in a very different time, so far removed from our experience as to almost be uncomprehensible. What passed for 'masculinity' back then is very different today. One of the things that men did in those times was to subjugate other men, as a demonstration of their absolute dominance and authority. It wasn't necessarily about 'love' but more like 'rape.'
In those times, military men were chosen for their ability to get along well with other men, and would 'pair up' into couples or triads much like the modern military does with the buddy system, or with 'wingmen.' The big difference was that they would share everything, weapons, armor, clothes, water, linen, a tent, a bed, etc. This was just the way it was done. They would spend all their time together, and they were encouraged to form deep friendships, which at the time they considered to be the 'purest form of love.'
Even the military leaders formed these small groups among themselves, and Alexander was not merely following tradition, but was establishing the standard by which his military functioned.
Things were much like this until quite recently, around the middle ages, when organized religion took over the military.
Oh, and Male bi-sexuality (or female for that matter) is no more or less common now than it ever was. It's only our attitude about it that has changed, not the behavior itself.

If you see the director's cut available on DVD, it doesn't leave any questions at all. He was gay as last year's Easter Bonnet. The only reason he took a wife was to try to sire an heir to his empire. A lot of that was edited out for the theatre release.
His love for Hephaestion is legendary. Nothing new at all in those claims.

You cannot apply social concepts within history. Is almost the same apply recent countries to ancient dinasties. What you need understand is there were other social concepts. Yes, Men did sex with other guys and also with woman. They lived wihtout so many boundries. They walked with breasts nudes (woman), they went to Sauna toghether, they practice sports nude, without shame or other kind of "moral". If you bring everything to actual days, you should rotulate him with Bissexual behavior, but perhaps with different behavior than whe have today.

Alexander the Great? He wasn't gay. He was bisexual. In the movie, they protrayed him as such. Male bisexuality was rather more common in those days.

he was a hard drinking ,self destructive man,who got sexually turned on by violence and warfare.this is evidence that is only comming to light now.the fact that he was bi-sexual doesnt come as any suprise.alexander´s personality is one of total loss of control.he burned down the entire city of persepolis that he conquered from the persians when he was in a drunken rage.when guys like this get pissed, anything goes.in those days bi-sexuality wasnt such a big deal.

Because there is strong evidence, allegedly, that he was in fact bisexual. Back in those times, it was the norm to have sex with both sexes.
