Lets see here:
Make sure the temperature of the room and the temperature of the bed are both comfortable... but preferably not the same.
Make sure the texture of the bed is to your liking... and / or whatever clothes you wear to bed.
Make sure you've eaten and drunk plenty before going to bed.
Make sure there are no unnecessary distractions and whatnot.
Most importantly.... make sure you have resolved ALL issues of the day in your mind before you go to sleep. Going to bed with "unfinished business" is a hell of a problem sometimes... It really helps to be sure that you've achieved something in the day, and that going to sleep isn't drawing you away from something you're anxious to deal with....
If you're still having difficulty.... I recommend burning some pleasant incense..... and perhaps listening to very quiet abstract ambient music.... or natural sounds. I've found that there are some programs online that can simulate brainwave patterns as sound.... and I have fallen asleep listening to those before... They're oddly relaxing.
And if none of that works........ alcohol typically helps.
Its not as if you need special chemicals from the pharmacy or anything. Those things cost a bomb.... even more than b00ze.

Tips to falling asleep:
Make sure the room is cool and dark
Do not do work in your bedroom
Don't watch television (the flickering lights can be stimulating and keep you awake)
Try tuning your radio to a station with no reception to get a little white noise.
Drink something warm.

I love this when I can't get to sleep. 1st. I learn all the muscles in the human body & where ur's are on u by thinking about them. So when ur laying there U start with the muscles @ the top of ur head & think of them as rubber bands, that are stretched & tight, imagin them relaxing, goin limp, all the muscle is totaly relaxed. Starting with all the muscles on ur head & working all the way to ur toes, if u get that far & don't fall a sleep 1st. Just make sure ur lying on ur back in a comfortable position & all ur muscles are totaly relaxed, no tension.
Good Luck

I take Melatonin which is a natural substance that is secreted by your brain. It helps me fall asleep. You can always do the warm baths, teas, etc.

Turn on a fan, or something with a steady sound like a computer. Relax, and think about something relaxing. See how that works.

this totally works.....
buy one of those cheap "sudoku" games at the dollar store, play a couple of rounds and you'll be snoring away.
or a relaxation technique is to lay there and scrunch up your toes for five seconds, then release for a few, then your feet...then release...then your legs....and so on all the way up... it helps me sometimes

you may have insomnia. Try over an over the counter medicine to help you fall alseep or listening to soothing music.
I would say count sheep but I doubt that works.

Try to determine what keeps you awake and change that. ie If you drink coffee before going to bed, try a caffiene free drink instead.

Take a relaxing shower or bath, don't drink anything with caffine in it. Try yoga!
