it forms a V highlighting the brand name of the watch which is usually between the twelve at the top and the point at which the hands are affixed to the internal mechanism. The V shape draws you attetion inward and to the brand name. Often in digital watches 10:10 is also used simply out of habit

the hands on the clocks are 10:10 because it is the "happy time" which means that it makes people feel positive. it also resembles a smile. a bad time to put on advertisements would be 4:40 or 8:20 becasue both hands would be downward, looking like a frown.

It's suppose to look more balanced
It's used in a lot of display designs
as well as your basic driving position

Analog watches are set @ 10:10 to "frame" the manufactures name while keeping symmetry. I prefer 4:20 myself.
