You can try "More than Words" by Extreme (classified specifically as "Mom Rock")

"Got Me Wrong" or "Down in a Hole", both by Alice in Chains (does that count? - alternative rock, starts off acoustic)

"Layla" from Eric Clapton unplugged

"I Can't Stand Here Waiting" by Graham Colton

"Bad Reputation" by Freedy Johnston"

"Boys in the Hood" an acoustic cover song of Easy E's rap song, by Dynamite Hack.

"Never Let Me Down," a Smashing Pumpkins cover of Duran Duran (it's overproduced, sure, but the arrangement is very moving)

"Get High With My Friends" artist I'm not sure, but I think (and I hope this doesn't dissuade you) it's on the "Can't Hardly Wait Soundtrack." If you go to amazon.com, look at that soundtrack listing, and you'll find the artist.

"Slave" or "Preach On" by Lola Ray. They are not acoustic, per se, but they do have that slow, sad, empowering feel to them.

That's all I can think of right now. Sorry!

Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt" is pretty amazing.

Blackbird (acoustic) or any other song by The Beatles.

Fade to Black - Metallica
Not acoustic, but the intro is too good to pass up.
