To paraphrase a Supreme Court justice, the right to wave your fist around stops at the end of the other man's nose. Cigarette smoke is a known carcinogen, so measures to protect the general public from it are entirely appropriate.

Smokers have as much right to be where they want to be and smoke if they wanna. The same rights a nonsmoker has to enjoy their right and children's right not to inhale smoke. I think a lot of people would agree that smoke smells terrible and gross when you are eating (even smokers!) Let the business decide for themselves. If you do not like smoke, only go to those places that have banned smoking. Do not be a patron of places that allow smoking indoors...maybe businesses will get the idea if enough people protest. Where im from, most places that children are allowed, do not allow smoking. Of course there are still the restaurants that have smoking and nonsmoking areas...and i agree they are not a good substitute.

Recently they just passed a similiar law where I live. Personally, I don't know why the government is even involve with these issues. If an establishment allows smokers then exercise your right to go somewhere else. If an establishment wants you there they would not allow smokers. It's that simple. Since when are people that smoke outcast to society? What no one else in the world has bad habits..excuse me addictions.... I love it when people complain about smokers, but get drunk daily or use ILLEGAL drugs. What makes you any better?? Yes, everyone knows smoking will harm you. If it's that bad the outlaw it don't restrict it to the point of outlaw. Why won't it be outlawed, because without smokers many states economies will suffer. Without the tax and settlement arrangements state programs would be tapped out, that includes public schools and welfare. Not to mention that sales and state taxes would have to increase to help offset it. It's simple don't go where you don't like. If I don't like your body odor am I going to ask you to move or move myself. If you want to restrict something restrict drinking I never heard of someone smoking and driving and killing a family. Freedom does include our right to do what we want within the law.

I am a nonsmoker, I don't likie being around smoke however I HATE the smoking ban. I am 20 years old and the city I live in now has a smoking banl. You have to be 21 years old to enter the buildings that allow smoking. So I am no longer allowed to play pool, bowl, eat at a lot of places. I think that it totally sucks. I'm a mother and the father of my 2 girls passed away so it's just me and my girls, money is tight. I tried to find a part time job for on the weekends because I work full itme during the week, guess what. I am not old enough to work at over half of the places in our city thanks to the smoking ban. It's crazy!

I am a long time, curtious smoker. I will put my cigarette out in a resturant, if it bothers those in a smoking section who are eating at the time I light up. I will even tell them that I am smoking and to let me know if it bothers them. I especially, will put one out if I am sitting on the border of a smoking and non-smoking section. I think that bars and tobacco stores should be the exception. I am a bartender and those who drink get on my nerves sometimes, but if I am in eatery, I don't expect them to not drink because it bothers me. I feel that restuarants should have a seperate smoking section that is enclosed. I know that there are medical reasons that some should not be around smoke, on oxygen etc.., I think that this world is big enough to accomedate such an option. I feel that this should be done, however, at the business owners expense.

As much as YOU dislike smoking and drinking, no one can force people not to do them, and no one should! While you may not like it, everyone has the right to do whatever the hell they want to do to their own body. Now, if it infringes on other peoples rights, then it's a problem. For example, if you drink and drive, you go to jail. As far as smoking in public goes, if it bothers someone or aggravates someone's health, then there might be a problem. Public (government) buildings should ban smoking. Hospitals, schools, and other places in which smoke could seriously harm somone's health should also be smoke free.
However, telling someone that they can't smoke or allow smoking on private property is wrong. A bar owner, for example, should be able to allow smoking in his/her establishment. And drinking. You have the right to your opinion, but things like mandatory private property smoking ban laws and prohibition infringe on other people's rights, and thus, should not be allowed. If you don't like what's going on around you, too bad.

So people who smoke have less rights than those that don't . If I am respecting others by not smoking in a no smoking area then I've done my part. Most places have designated smoking areas anyway. The only way I'm not gonna smoke where I want is by outlawing smoking and I think they've already tried that a few times and failed

Sorry disagree with you on part of your question, even thou more munching cigars will drive up somethings highly over taxed and priced. Just think of all the chemical used to produce white smoke. Would love to know cigar company that uses completely non radiated tobacco. Munch on good candella cigar not half brains crap. It will still kill you only little slower, and won't kill person next to you. Agree with your added details, but wonder how you square that with your question. Anything except higher taxes that make it harder for kids to light up and keeps god knows what out of my face when in bar gets my vote.

Be careful what you wish for. You just might get it.
So, you don't like cigarettes and drinking. What happens next? Once you set the precedent, they can do anything they want to you. Look at NY. First they banned smoking, and now they are dictating what kind of fat restaurants can use in their food.
If you want to live under that kind of government rule, leave the country. There are plenty of other places where the government will tell you how to live every second of your life. This is one of the few places where we have the freedom to make our own decisions.
If you don't like smoke, don't go where smoking is allowed. It's really that simple. When you demand that everyone conform to YOUR personal standards, you open the door to allow other people to enforce their wishes on you as well.

Well theres propsositon 84 or 83 i cant remember, since your a smoker con then vote for this. This propositoin creates a tax for ciggaretes that goes to medical, education and more. It will help bring down Big Tobbaco.
My opinion is that this is a good thing, Issue 5 may not HAPPEN. i hope it happens becuase it will help cut down on peer pressure from adults. And it will cut back on second hand smoke.
