You shouldn't try to use tampons for the first time at school - wait until you are home so you can relax in privacy and take all the time you need. Do carry a pad with you in case it starts at school - or ask the school nurse or a close friend for one.
This may sound strange, but if you wear black underpants you won't have to waste a lot of time getting bloodstains out. Just toss them in the washing machine with other dark colored clothes. And if you're expecting your period, don't wear light-colored jeans, either, or every drop will show, and that's very embarrassing.

If you are worried about getting your period at school, you should keep an extra pair of pants, underwear, and a pad in your locker. If you decide not to do this, that's okay too. If your first period catches you by surprise, don't be worried. Just ask a teacher or friend for a pad and tie a sweatshirt around your waist until you can find a more permanent fix.

Then you go to the bathroom and either put a tampon in or put on a pad. If you have not had your period yet but are around the age then I would put some pads in your locker and wear pantyliners so that if you were to start it wouldn't ruin your clothing. Since you haven't had your period at all I wouldn't try using tampons yet especially at school because at school you are nervous when you notice that you have started your period.

im 12 and started my period at school last year. when i went to the bathroom(just to pee) i noticed a little little bit and didn't think too much of it, just thought it was some poop that i didn't wipe enough. i had no signs of it (i might of but i didn't think anything of it because it was so young) then right after school i had a cross country meet and when i went to the bathroom before the race i noticed a 1-2 inch circle of blood on my underware. i screamed and everyone freaked out in the bathroom! i had nothing! i was scared to death when i was running. i ended up getting 22 minutes on a 1.6 mile. nothing else after that came out for 2 months. i had so many thoughts running through my head that i collapsed. whatever you do, do not let it take over your life. i did that for a year and i missed a big part of my life. once i didn't expect it and it went through my pants. i had to use my sweatshirt to cover it up. another time it went through my pants when i was riding my bike. i was 2 miles from home and had to keep riding. it was awful and tons of people noticed im sure. just be prepared or make a little tiny bag with some fabric and use it to pack pads in. bring it with you to the bathroom. it will look like a pencil case. all my luck to you and my #1 tip to you is DO NOT LET IT TAKE OVER YOUR LIFE!

A period is not like you think it is. It won't go running down your leg or anything. I had the same worry. There will just be some blood on your underwear. The school nurse should have some pads in her office and then it drips like that for 2 days to a week then its gone for a month. You'll see it isn't that bad, nothing embarrassing will happen.
You may be able to tell when its going to start sometimes you will feel a little sick, and you may have pain in your abdomen. You could take a pad to school and stash it in your locker if you don't want to ask the nurse then you'll have some.

I had this worry as well, so trust me when I tell you that the first day of your first period is going to be very light. It will likely be a VERY light brownish colored discharge, and will probably be fine to wait until you get home. It will not drip or pour out of you or anything like that.
If all else fails, you can go to the nurses office, she will have extras.

Best thing would be to carry a sanitary napkin in your purse/backpack. This happened to my daughter, she started at school, and wasn't prepared (cuz I hadn't really given it much thought, she was only 10 at the time).
