This isnt even up for discussion. Dick Butkus was easily the meanest, toughest, craziest football player in the history of the NFL. That guy would clothes line you, bite you, spit on you, grab your balls in a pile, anything. And when he wasnt beating you like that he would just tackle you and knock the crap out of you. Lawrence Taylor is a close second.

Lambert was an animal....he looked positively scary when he took his teeth out. He'd be right up there as the toughest. I think you'd have to include Dick Butkus, "Mad Dog" Mike Curtis and Chuck Bednarick.

The above answers are all good. The first player that entered my mind was Ronnie Lott--one of the hardest hitters in the game. Mike Singletary and Howie Long also come to mind.

LT was a monster, and so was Reggie White. But I could choose one person to tackle an enemy in the history of football it would be, Ray Lewis, wow can't believe I said that.

"Concrete Charlie" Chuck Bednarik.

He's the guy who changed Frank Gifford from a running back into a color man in one wicked shot.

Besides, his nickname is "Concrete Charlie". What could be tougher than that?

Ronnie Lott, the greatest hitting Defensive Back ever, who happened to lose his finger due to his own hit on a receiver.
