Look at and talk to the boy, making sure you don't talk about him, but to him.

What a great age, because they are very keen and soak up everything. You will be his first impression.
So, ask about school and listen and compliment him after.

Compliment his actions, find anything good and be genuine.

Remember he is very keen to your body launguage and tone of voice.

DON'T WORRY HE'LL LOVE YOU, BECAUSE HIS DAD DOES.

P.S. if you think a gift is a good idea make sure its age appropriate, or he'll get frustrated.

Cookies are nice :-) I wouldn't bring anything else though, kids have great radar and can tell if someone is trying to 'buy' their affection (not that you are trying to do so). Just relax and be yourself, but try not to be too affectionate with Dad,,this might cause feelings of jealousy, especially if his son doesn't get to see Dad as often as he'd like to. Good luck and have fun (knock knock jokes are usually a winner with that age set :-)

Hi,

This one easy. Relax and have fun....he is six. Cookies are always a plus. Toys and board games is fun. Give the six year old time to warm to you and give him tons of attention and he will love you. He is a kid Kids are great you just have to show them you are interested in them.

Just be really nice, and don't take anything personal, be your self, most of the time with kids, it's a marathon, not a 100 yard dash, know what I mean, it might take some time for them to warm up to you, also remember there mom, will be asking them about you

Just be yourself, friendly, and have fun getting to know him. Six year olds are very open and loving. I'm sure he'll love you, especially if you're making cookies... They love playing games too, so if you're indoors, maybe play a game together, draw pictures, clay, playdoh, projects, etc...

Don't be fake and don't try to buy his affection. Kids can sense things so let him get close to you, don't force the relationship.

I wouldn't show up. Unless he's widowed, that sort of weird relationship never works out. Ready to hear him say "you're not my mother"?
