I need to know how 2 solve this problem algebraicly, but i dont know how to set it up to solve it. Please help???

Cycle Paths Inc makes bicycles, tricycles and unicycles. Last week they made 88 more bicycles thn unicycles, and 5 times as many tricycles as unicycles.If they made 40 more bicycles than tricycles, how many unicycles did they make?

b = u +88
5u = t
t + 40 = b

t+ 40 = u + 88
5u + 40 = u + 88

4u = 48

u = 12

Let B = number of bikes
Let T = number of trikes
Let U = number of unicycles

1. B = U + 88
2. T = U X 5
3. B = T + 40

Sub 3 into 1
4. T + 40 = U + 88
5. T = U + 88 - 40 = U + 48

solve 2 & 5 since they both have T & U as unknowns

5U = U + 48
4U = 48
U = 12
Therefore they make 12 unicycles

Let's call the number of bikes B, trikes T and unicycles U. The first clue can be written mathematically as U + 88 = B, the second as 5U = T and the third as T + 40 = B. You just said you needed help setting it up, but I'm going to go down a bit, so you don't have to read it if you don't want to, and solve the problem.

Try multiplying the first equation by 5, giving 5U + 440 = 5B. We know from the second equation that 5U = T, so we have T + 440 = 5B. Now multiply the third equation by 5: 5T + 200 = 5B. That means we can now write T + 440 = 5T + 200. Collecting like terms gives 240 = 4T, so T = 60. Therefore B = 100, and U = 12. They made 12 unicycles.

bicycles=unicycles+88
tricycles=5*unicycles
bicycles=tricycles+40
unicycles+88=5*unicycles+40
88-40=5*unicycles-unicycles
44=4*unicycles
11=unicycles

edit:
48=4*unicycles
12=unicycles

sorry i can't add, subtract, multiply, divide, or copy from one line to the next with any level of consistent accuracy. all i can really do accurately is higher level stuff (calculus, trig, geometry, etc.). its annoying....
