This may be one of the most difficult things to do as it hurts so much to see someone you care about in pain and know that you can't do anything about it. But here is what I've learned from way too many years of experience:

1) Make sure, damn sure that he knows you are available for him.
2) Leave him alone until he comes to you.
3) If you see an opportunity to do something for him, take advantage of it, but do no more - nothing more. For instance, if you know he's not eating well (depression), order a pizza, pay for it, and have it delivered to his home. If you know he needs a ride to the store and you're around, let hi know you are avail. if he wants to take advantage of the offer, then say nothing more about it.

Above all, let him know you are there for him, then leave him to make the next move toward you. He likely has many folks who are doing the same thing, so it's only a matter of time before you're up. :-)

I think you should stay out of this mess, and mind your own business. Obviously he's not interested in your help - so stop trying to be a goody twoshoes or a James Bond, and get on with your life, and leave the guy alone before you become the next target.

Your friend has gone through a very traumatizing event that he will never ever forget for the rest of his life. You need to leave him alone for awhile so that he can grieve or get professional help to cope with the tragedy of his loss.

You can send him emails to show that you are thinking of him or send him a card through regular mail. Let him know when he is ready that you will be there for him

give up! as long as your friend knows that you're there to help him if he needs it, then that's all you can do. i'm sure he knows your intentions are good, but you've got to leave this to him
