por15 is Not recommended as a topcoat b/c it's very UV sensitive. still will protect against rust but quickly loses its pigment quality and chalks up....so for cosmetic purposes it is Not a good choice at all. There's another competitor called KBS RustSeal that offers new advanced technology...deeper richer pigments, better adhesion, uniform sheens and more moderate UV stability, but topcoating still recommended if exposure to sunlight is prolonged. I understand from my sales rep that some spectacular KBS topcoats will be released soon unlike por15 kind.

No way, the pigments will degrade terribly and chalk or yellow. You can topcoat por with any paint though, but you'll most likely have to apply a selfetch primer for paint to stick to it so it doesn't peel off. By the way if you loved POR, you'll love the KBS paints by far. the KBs satin black is much more superior to POR semigloss. Its sheen is uniform, not patchy and has better pigments for a deep rich black finish. no comparison between the two at all, so don't let old labels fool you.

i work for a body shop supply company, i can not personally answer your question, but there are several people here who actually know what their talking about. the product is designed to only be used as an undercoat, any exposure to sunlight only weakens it. if applied as a topcoat, moisture also plays a big role in breaking it down quickly. all in all, any POR 15 applied to any metal surface needs to be sealed to work properly. there is also a website you can go to, it is www.POR15.com, if i didnt help you out enough.

Herculiner is largely a coating. there is not any rust resistance / corrosion inhibitor in it. interior the 80's it replaced into common to conceal the decrease physique in a real heavy "chip preserve" coating. That regarded outstanding for a on an analogous time as, regardless of if it replaced into so thick that via the time you observed the rust below, it replaced into too previous by using repair. POR15 is a sturdy product, as long as this is used precisely because it relatively is going to. Any unsuitable prep & it would not artwork.
